Men’s Basketball Families — Help Needed for Upcoming Home Games:
We have 6 upcoming home games, with a busy stretch in February, including the Northwood game, and we’re asking for support with concessions.
Concessions play an important role in supporting our basketball program, and when families help out, it makes game nights run smoothly for everyone. Any level of participation is appreciated, and every shift makes a difference.

Thank you for supporting our players, our program, and our school community.
A Roller Coaster Week — And a Championship Reset:
This past week was a roller coaster — emotionally, mentally, and physically. A shortened one-hour practice week. Two tough road games. High highs and a tough low. That’s basketball. More importantly, that’s growth.
Let’s start with what we proved.
Our win against Eastern Alamance — a 12th-ranked 5A team in the state — was no accident. That game showed exactly what we are capable of when we are locked in, connected, and playing for each other. Our execution, composure, and team play reflected the ceiling of this program. That’s not hype — that’s evidence. You earned that win, and you earned the respect that came with it.
Now, the South Granville game.
I want to be very clear and very direct: I take full responsibility for that loss. Scheduling back-to-back, distant road games against strong competition during a shortened practice week was a mistake. That is on me. Additionally, while we knew what South Granville was likely to do, I did not emphasize attacking their 1-3-1 defense with the clarity and urgency required. As a result, our 1-3-1 offense operated at about 50% of what it should be. That’s unacceptable. I apologize, and I will work to ensure you are always put in the best position to succeed.
That said, there is one non-negotiable moving forward.
Technical fouls stop now.
There is a pattern starting to emerge, and it cannot continue. From this point forward, any player who receives a technical foul will be immediately benched for the remainder of the game, with the possibility of a one-game suspension. There is zero tolerance for mental breakdowns that hurt the team. Composure is part of championship basketball. Period.
Here’s the good news.
We flush the South Granville game down the toilet. It does not define us — unless we let it. We reset and we live up to our standards.
Every game from this point forward is a conference game, except Northwood. And in conference play, we are still in the driver’s seat. But being in the driver’s seat means nothing if you don’t keep your hands on the wheel. We must win our conference games.
From now on, every time we touch the court — practice or game — we operate like we are preparing for or playing in a championship. Anything less is cheating ourselves. Leaders must lead. Energy must be consistent. Focus must be relentless.
This week is about restarting our winning ways — in practice first, then in games.
The standard hasn’t changed.
The opportunity is still right in front of us.
Now it’s time to respond the right way.
Let’s go to work.
