Basketball Jamboree Recap:
The basketball jamboree was an incredible experience for us!
We faced two teams: Middle Creek and Durham School of the Arts.
In our first game against Middle Creek, their energy and physicality challenged us, and we didn’t quite meet our performance standards. It was also our first time playing together - but that’s no excuse.
Between games, we took the time to make the necessary mental adjustments.
In our second game against Durham School of the Arts, we came out strong and played well in front of an enthusiastic crowd of Seaforth supporters.
We left the jamboree feeling positive and motivated for what’s ahead!
Great job, fellas. Let’s build on this momentum and keep pushing forward.
Supplemental Basketball Tryouts:
On Mon, 11/11, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, the men’s basketball program will hold supplemental tryouts specifically for fall sports athletes (such as those in football, baseball, track, etc.).
During this session, all participants will join a full practice, where their performance will be assessed. Each participant’s effectiveness in practice will determine their eligibility for a spot on either the varsity or JV team.
This tryout is being offered because fall sports participants couldn’t attend the initial tryouts due to their commitments. As per school regulations, students are not permitted to participate in multiple sports at the same time.
The varsity and JV rosters will be finalized following the completion of the supplemental basketball tryouts. Rosters will be posted by Mon, 11/11, at 9:30pm on www.SeaforthBasketball.com.
Parent Meeting:
We have an important parent meeting scheduled for Tue, 11/12, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
In this meeting, we will discuss team goals, communication methods, practice schedules, volunteer opportunities, fundraising plans, parental support, and hold a Q&A session.
All parents are encouraged to attend, as this meeting will provide valuable information.
Locker Room:
Starting Tue, 11/12, we will begin using the locker rooms for both varsity and JV teams.
It is highly recommended that you bring a lock for your locker, as the locker room door is often open. You can claim your locker on Tuesday (in the morning, before practice, or after practice).
Between now and Tuesday, I will ensure the locker room is cleared out, cleaned, and sanitized.
Games This Week:
On Fri, 11/15, we will either scrimmage an "external" opponent or host a maroon/white game. I’ll have more details available by Tue, 11/12.
In any case, there will be a game on Fri, 11/15.
Fundraiser:
On Thu, 11/14, we will kick off a fundraising campaign using Vertical Raise. Please visit the link below for pre-campaign instructions:
Let’s make this a success, as all funds raised will directly benefit our basketball program.
Scrimmage Video:
A good friend, Aimee Haygood (from Woods Charter School), kindly recorded our scrimmage game against Durham School of the Arts. To view the video, please visit the following link:

The Battle Before the Battle:
In basketball, the team that plays with greater physicality and energy has a decisive edge and is more likely to win.
With that in mind, every time we step on the court, we MUST be the more physical and energetic team — both on the floor and on the bench.
Yesterday, in our game against Middle Creek, we fell short in this area. As a result, we struggled to execute our sets and actions effectively.
This was the root cause of our challenges in that game.
We can’t allow this to happen. The truth is, it doesn’t matter what plays we run — if we let another team "bully" us, we have no chance.
To set ourselves up for success, we have to win the "battle before the battle."
The battle I’m talking about is the "physicality" and "energy” battle. Once we win this, we can focus on the strategies, sets, and systems.
Yesterday was a valuable learning experience for both the short term and the long term.
In the short term, we bounced back by dominating Durham School of the Arts through increased physicality and energy, which then allowed us to effectively run our sets and actions.
In the long term, we’ve realized the significance of winning this initial battle in every game, which greatly enhances our chances of success!
