Final Tryout Week:
This week, we will conclude basketball tryouts.
Roster adjustments will be made, as there will be additions and subtractions.
Final rosters (Varsity & JV) will be made available by Thu, 11/20.
Keep earning your spot.
Game Week:
On Fri, 11/21, we host Middle Creek (6A) for both Varsity and JV games.
We scrimmaged them last year at the Jordan-Matthews Jamboree, and they got the better of us. That’s probably why they were quick to schedule us. But this year is different — our preparation, our focus, and our execution can completely change the outcome.
I’m telling you this because we need to be locked in all week. To beat this team, we must bring our A-game every day in practice and every possession on game night.
Let’s have a strong, focused week of work.
Importance of Body Language:
In basketball, everyone makes mistakes — missed shots, turnovers, defensive slips. What truly defines a player isn’t the error itself but how he responds in the moments after. One of the clearest indicators of that response is body language, and it matters more than most players realize.
When we miss a shot or make a bad play, the first reaction for many athletes is frustration. Some drop their heads, some throw their hands up, and others let out words they probably shouldn’t. While these reactions are understandable, they can quickly become a problem. Poor body language doesn’t just show disappointment — it affects your focus, your teammates, and even your opponents’ confidence.
Basketball is a fast game, and the next play comes at you immediately. The best players are the ones who can reset quickly. Being mentally tough means keeping your composure, letting go of the mistake, and moving on with purpose. Coaches call it a “next play mentality.” Once the ball leaves your hands, the only thing that matters is what you do next.
Your body language is a window into your mindset. If you slump your shoulders, look defeated, or show frustration, your mind will follow that direction. But if you stand tall, stay engaged, and show confidence — even after a mistake — you put yourself in a better position to help your team.
Strong body language also lifts your teammates. It shows maturity, leadership, and resilience. Players who stay composed help create a culture of toughness and unity.
Bottom line: make an intentional effort to check your body language. Control what you can control. Stay locked in. The next play is always the most important one.
