Team Meal Contributions for Seaforth Men’s Varsity Basketball:
To ensure our players are well-nourished prior to games, we will be providing meals throughout the basketball season. Meal cost for 15 players over 26 games is approximately $330 (optionally) per player.
We kindly request this amount to be paid at your earliest convenience. To make this more manageable, we are offering a payment plan in three installments of $110 each:
- First payment: Due immediately
- Second payment: Due in December
- Third payment: Due in January
Please note that all players will have access to meals, regardless of contributions, but we strongly encourage everyone to participate to help cover costs.
Payments may be made in cash or check to the team’s account at First Bank in Pittsboro, NC. Please make checks payable to Seaforth HS Men’s Basketball.
Felicia Lewis (Noah Lewis’ mother) will manage payment tracking. For transparency, Lourdes Yanes-Reeffer (Darren Moore’s mother) and Sherry Lindquist (Declan Lindquist’s mother) will oversee checks and balances.
We also need volunteers to assist with meal pick-ups. If you’re able to help, please contact Lourdes at 910-286-2903 or lourdes@cptriangle.com.
Thank you for your support in making this a great season for our team!

Playing Time Considerations from a Coach’s Perspective:
This past Saturday, I had a conversation with a basketball parent from another school regarding playing time, particularly in situations where a team has a significant lead. They were curious to understand the decision-making process from a coach's perspective.
Here’s a summary of my response:
While it may seem fair to remove the primary players when the team has a big lead, the situation is often more nuanced. For example:
- If the lead occurs early in the game (1st or 2nd quarter), it wouldn’t make sense to bench the starters for the remainder of the game.
- Repeatedly limiting a player's minutes game after game could hinder their development and confidence.
- If the opposing team shows any signs of making a run, it might be necessary to keep key players on the floor to maintain control.
Additionally, from a chemistry standpoint, keeping certain players on the court even in a lopsided game can benefit the team in the long term. Building on-court cohesion is critical for success in more competitive situations.
Playing Time Philosophy
Players tryout to earn a spot on the team, but being part of the roster doesn’t guarantee playing time. Playing time must be earned through consistent effort and performance in practice by following these five key principles:
- Attend practices consistently.
- Learn the sets and plays.
- Follow the coach’s instructions.
- Bring positive energy and prioritize the team’s success.
- Perform when given the opportunity.
When players commit to these principles, they’re more likely to see time on the court. Conversely, if these are not met, playing time will be limited — even in scenarios where the team has a substantial lead.
For clarity, I shared with the parent that even if the team is up by 100 points, playing time is still earned through hard work and accountability in practice. The parent appreciated this explanation.
As always, transparency and consistent communication help ensure that players and parents alike understand the process and expectations.
